Experience
I live in Bay Ridge but attend university in Manhattan so I have a flexible location to work with. I've tutored elementary school kids in Brooklyn in reading and math for a year. I tutor my college peers in biology. I've assisted students by helping them understand how to connect overarching themes and make connections among different topics in order to help write papers and complete projects of a quality standard. Why I want to be a tutor: I've been interested in the sciences since kindergarten where my grandmother, a midwife, would sit me down and we'd learn the functions of the human body together. I've been working towards medical school ever since -16 years now. I love to work with children and people up to my age to really make them enjoy the sciences. I myself am a vertebrate anatomy nerd and love to discuss evolution with my professor in my free time. I love to see children, and even fellow college students, go from stubbornly against the sciences, to pursuing the sciences as hobbies or even a profession. I can assist with any school projects at home or required trips throughout the city! I will help serve as a guidance throughout the trip which will enable you or your child to choose smart and feasible project topics from museum or zoo exhibits. I can even take students to museums/zoos simply to give them more of a wholistic view and enjoyment of the subjects they are learning whether it's global history, English, science, or art. I bond well with children and I am not new to baby sitting kids of all different age groups. The skills I've learned there are essential to getting younger students to cooperate with tutoring and homework sessions. Being a pre-med student, I personally know how frustrating school can be. I aim to make tutoring sessions as comfortable for students as possible and can provide a variety of techniques for learning the material if one method is proving to be difficult.
