Max E.
Private tutor in Brooklyn, NY
Education
DPhil Ancient History, University of Oxford 2016. MPhil (Dist) Greek & Roman History, University of Oxford 2012. BA (Hons) Latin & Greek, Indiana University - Bloomington 2010. My undergraduate background was firmly philological, with a greater study of the classics than history. To even things out, I decided to focus on ancient history in grad school, and I have stuck with it.
Experience
While at Oxford I taught a Latin grammar lecture course for several years, and held tutorials with students on various Ancient Greek and Roman authors—Cicero, Herodotus, Aristotle, and Tacitus being the most frequent. I am able to tutor in either language, Latin or Greek. The tutorial system of teaching used more widely in the UK, and particularly its iteration at Oxbridge and some small American colleges, is highly analogous to private tutoring. The dynamic is mostly the same, but in private sessions I am naturally not the one dictating what the course material is.
