I am a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher and tutor with a master’s degree in Education with a focus on mathematics, and Professional Teaching certification in mathematics for grades 7 - 12. I have four years of experience as a secondary school math teacher and after-school tutor. I have worked with students of widely varying levels of understanding, and I have developed a truly dynamic approach to teaching that helps students learn and engage with each topic. I present material clearly and simply. I always present material in multiple ways. I tie visual representations to symbolic and more abstract representations of content. I help students to compare the questions that they are trying to solve to the questions that they have seen in the past. When possible, I present students with different approaches to answering a question, and challenge students to think about which way is best or when one approach might be better than another. I model completing sample questions, and help students learn how to present their ideas and their work clearly. As a teacher and as a tutor, I want my students to learn the content that they need to move forward, I want my students to understand that doing well in math and in school is a product of dedication and hard work, and I also want my students to gain confidence and develop more enthusiastic, positive attitudes towards math and learning. My experience, my dynamic approach, and my enthusiasm and intensity are what make me a great tutor.
