My teaching philosophy: Everyone has unique strengths and talents. Unfortunately, academic challenges can overshadow these positives, leaving you and your child feeling anxious and overwhelmed. Rather than merely tackling weaknesses, tutoring begins with the places where students are already shining. This philosophy is grounded in the cognitive science notion of bootstrapping. Simply put, humans have the extraordinary ability to use the mental resources we already have to scaffold places where we may be struggling. Additionally, when students begin from a place of success rather than failure, their frustration begins to melt away, and students find themselves accomplishing more than they ever imagined. During tutoring sessions, students will learn how to lean on their strengths to tackle challenges now and in the future. The result is that students will not only achieve their current academic goals but will also become more independent and confident, both academically and in meeting life’s challenges. Hobbies/interests: I love singing and have been a member of choruses/choirs for more than half my life. I also love playing with my dog and hiking.
