Education

University of Iowa - Bachelors, Political Science, Journalism and Mass Communication

Experience

I'm certified to teach English as a second language, and I have worked with everyone from children to adults. This has included students trying to understand verb conjugations to assisting adults looking to improve resumes and job interview skills. I currently teach pre-TOEFL and writing for adults at an American language center in New York. I develop and teach my own lessons, focusing on presenting material in interesting and effective ways. I was a journalist before I was a teacher, and I've been published in publications like the City Pages in Minneapolis, LA Weekly, and the Village Voice. These opportunities helped me learn to love the English language and made me a great writer. I want my students to love English as well, and I also focus on helping students develop critical thinking skills and test taking skills so they can be successful now and in the future. In my free time, I like to write, read, play basketball, play the guitar, and travel.
