Education

Spelman College, B.S. Mathematics, 2014

Experience

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and have become interested in education through my contacts with professionals in the field as well as through my work experiences. I have been tutoring math to under-served youth for almost six years. I’ve created programs, worked, and volunteered to help students achieve in academia. I have worked as a student teacher at Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn, NY. The experience provided me the opportunity to work closely with educators and to prepare students for regents exams. Through persistence, my ability to make math easier for others, and a strong grasp of mathematical content knowledge, I was able to boost the confidence of my students and keep them engaged throughout their lessons. In addition, through my community service activities I encouraged my students to consider new ways of thinking. I have learned how to be a better mentor to under-served youth. These are the skills that continue to help me get results for my students. Not only am I an expert when it comes to mathematical content, I am an expert when it comes to helping others achieve that same level of understanding I tutor both children, and adults. Feel free to contact me for more information, and thank you for your time.

Hobbies

I like to be outdoors, and I think that the best outdoor experience I have had was planting mango trees at a school in Ghana. I love to travel! I've been to Ghana, France, Italy, and Malta. I speak a very basic level of Japanese and I love anime. My favorite book is somewhere between "Waiting for Godot" by Albert Camus and "The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness" by Michelle Alexander. I come from a Caribbean family. I am very passionate about the black community and contributing to our collective success. In my spare time I like to attend cultural events where I can learn something new or just have a fun time :)
