I'm a resident of Brooklyn, New York. I received my education at CUNY Medgar Evers College and Brooklyn College. I have been teaching since 1974 in pre-kindergarten up to 4th grade. Over the years, I have dealt with many different types of students: some angry and frustrated with their subjects, and others quite interested in learning. I have been able to help both types of students in the classroom and in life. I feel that I have the knowledge and experience to be a good tutor. Tutoring allows me to help struggling students, and benefits me as well by keeping me abreast of developments in education.I use a variety of techniques to help my students learn. In mathematics, for example, I routinely use manipulatives, as I find that younger students understand a topic better when using hands-on material. In every subject area, I find writing in a journal to be useful. I allow students to do their work in groups in order to foster sharing, cooperation, and mutual appreciation. I also support peer tutoring, which permits students to help one another. I am available to tutor elementary and middle school math, arithmetic, pre-algebra, algebra 1, and geometry.In my spare time, I like to crochet, travel, read, hike, and swim.
