Education

Barnard College - Bachelors, English

Experience

I graduated from Barnard College with a Bachelor of Arts in literature. I also studied in TESL at UC Irvine and other schools around the country. I tutored English in Mexico for 11 years, as well as here in the U.S. My strengths are in standardized test preparation, reading acceleration courses, and general classes in home school settings. I also have extensive experience in private tutoring environments. I held a role as a Spanish-English interpreter and mentor for at-risk teens in California, and a writing tutor at two colleges on the east coast. I have also taught ELA and ESL for many diverse student groups, as well as several years with nonnative students' coursework and research. Through 20 years of tutoring experience, I especially enjoy the opportunity to work with many different people and their various skill levels and personalities. I approach my teaching to stimulate a student's curiosity, imagination, and skills to solve problems and gain a full understanding of material. I stay focused on their concerns and help relate real world situations to coursework. Away from class, I enjoy arts, spending time with family, exploring new cultures, and being out in nature.
