Experience
For the last two years I have worked with Teach for America as a high school mathematics teacher. My experience as a classroom teacher benefits my tutoring in several ways. Working with over 100 students in the past two years has given me insight into the psychology of different learners and what keeps them motivated. Getting students to be confident and work hard is just as important as teaching them how to do the work itself. I have also constructed Common Core Algebra and Geometry curricula from only online resources, and have planned lessons almost every day for the past two years. This intimate knowledge of content and ability to create materials for different types of students is invaluable. Furthermore, I am familiar with standardized testing in New York State and have extensive knowledge of how to prepare for these exams. Finally, I have learned how to be patient and compassionate with my students. I have experience with children of all backgrounds, levels and abilities, and have been trained to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of my students. In addition to my work as a classroom teacher, I have over seven years tutoring experience. I have worked as a private tutor of students grades 5-12 as well as for SAT and ACT preparation. Some of my SAT prep students increased their scores by as much as 500 points in just a few months. At Columbia University I worked as a microeconomics teaching assistant, a job which included a recitation lecture and tutoring during office hours. My academic and test taking record is excellent. I scored a 2310 on my SAT, including an 800 on the mathematics section. I also scored an 800 on the Math II Subject test.

Hobbies
My love of mathematics is reflected in several of my personal hobbies. I enjoy playing all sorts of card games, especially poker and hearts. As a teacher I would often use card games as a means to teach my students about probability. I also enjoy watching and playing all types of sports. I especially enjoy baseball, which I played throughout high school. I have always been fascinated by the strategy inherent in the game, and how advanced statistics methods are used in the major leagues to assemble the most effective rosters.
