Experience
Building on the life experience of growing up in a multilingual household, I went on to attend art school at the American University of Puerto Rico. I entered school speaking very little Spanish but after total immersion in the culture I became fluent in the language. I believe that learning another language has great benefit in building self-confidence, learning the personalities of other cultures, and being more comfortable traveling to other regions of the world. It also increases independence and the capacity to see new possibilities in life. I have been a teacher in many arts classes and workshops, as well as developing art programs for nonprofit groups. I have also taught French, my first language, to a range of age groups. Younger students are most always more adept at learning a new language and I strive to make the process enjoyable by incorporating different activities and breaking up the routine. This offers a balance to my lessons and helps students remain interested in learning and advancing in a subject. I also encourage my students to go ahead and laugh and not to be afraid of making a mistake. Currently, I am working on a program to teach French through art. Away from class, I enjoy painting, going to parks, and reading.
