Experience
I have just finished the StarTalk Immersion Training Program for the Teachers of Chinese FLES Course in NYC this summer. The course is three weeks long and it's designed for Mandarin teachers teaching students elementary learners. Greatly inspired by Ph.D. Helena Curtain's work, I could really apply the "Backward Design" theory to design classes for the students with, as well as making language being taught is purposeful and meaningful to the students. I have provided organized on site project-based culture study trips for school students (group size 6-25, age from 7-14) more than twenty times from 2006-2015. While keeping the students engaged during the culture study field trips, I assist the language teachers to ensure the student practice in the target language (Mandarin) during the trip and provide guidance when need.
