Learning is challenging, but it can also be fun and rewarding if approached correctly. As a tutor, my goal is to ensure that students have fun while learning and increasing their chances for success. I am a journalist, and what I love most about this field is being able to take something complex and simplify it, so that everyone can understand it without the unnecessary jargon. In some ways, journalism is a lot like teaching.I have been tutoring, informally, for many years when I babysat, helped children with their homework, and helped my classmates prepare for examinations. In that regard, I have been tutoring since I was an elementary student.I believe in order to be a successful tutor, one must be intelligent and have a greater understanding of the subject he or she is teaching. A tutor's job is not to give answers, but to explain how one reaches these answers. To be a great tutor, one must be compassionate, understanding, patient, and kind. The tutor should strive to build a comfortable environment that encourages learning and creativity. Empathy is a crucial element within tutoring. Teachers should be able to see the problems from the student's perspective in order to understand what may be troubling him or her.
