Hobbies
In my lessons, I create an environment and culture where students develop their curiosity and determination to learn, while they enjoy the process of acquiring French. It is my goal for my French students to deepen and intensify their interest and knowledge of the French language and culture, so that they continue to pursue French in high school, college, and beyond. I believe my role as a French teacher is to help them master French as a foreign language, and also show them how learning a second language can be useful to them in their futures as they connect to the world at large. I provide engaging and authentic French opportunities for my students. In my lessons students learn significant information they can bring to life in order to help others, make positive change in their community or the international community, and enrich their futures. Through intensive coaching, professional development at the National TPRS Conference, and through specialized KIPP training, I have been able to hone my pedagogical skills and become an exceptional teacher. I know this because of the French work my students produce in addition to their high proficiency scores on the ACTFL scale (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language). My students’ good results are partially due to the effective teaching method I use, called TPRS (Total Proficiency through Story Telling which is a comprehensible input method). I differentiate my teaching strategies for all of the intelligence types and learning styles. My French students learn through exploration of ideas and experiences by exercising their creative imaginations, and by applying the content they learn to their world.
