Mandy B.

Private tutor in Brooklyn, NY

Education

I am currently an MFA candidate in Writing at Columbia University, with a concentration in fiction. I received my BA in English and French from Franklin & Marshall College in 2009, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa.

Experience

I have been privately tutoring writing and English in New York for the past two years. I also grade diagnostic SAT and ISEE essays for high school students. I have taught creative writing at Brooklyn High School of the Arts and The Door, and will teach at Columbia's High School Summer Program this upcoming summer. I also taught English abroad in Malawi and in France from 2010-2011. In France, I conducted classes entirely in French.

Hobbies

I'm a friendly, fun, and enthusiastic person, and I believe that attitude translates well into tutoring. My tutoring style is to be engaging, energetic, and approachable with all of my students. I'm currently writing a novel that takes place at a fictional sleepaway camp, which will serve as my thesis at Columbia. I also enjoy doing yoga, riding my bike, reading, playing music, and spending time with my family and friends.
