Private tutor in Brooklyn, NY

Education

University of Pennsylvania/Liberal Arts, NYU/Dance Ed. (no degrees) (left to pursue other things). Empire State College: BA in Cultural Studies with a concentration in Creative Writing. June 2015.

Experience

(my availability is variable and cannot be described within the parameters given in the section called 'availability' so try me...) I' m currently volunteering at the Brooklyn Public Library as a Conversation Leader for non-English speakers. I've started a course at the New School to get a certificate in teaching ESL. I have a 4.0 GPA at Empire State. SAT's were many years ago, but I did well. I love teaching and have had various teaching experiences: as a dance teacher, a meditation teacher, and now, teaching English to non-native speakers. I've loved every minute of it. I've studied creative writing extensively--at Empire State and previously at NYU, and in a private workshop given by my NYU professor.

Hobbies

I originally came to New York to be a dancer, and formed my own group, The New York Temporary Dance Theater. True to it's name, we disbanded after two years. My first paid job was at The Viking Press. I was an editorial assistant in the children's book department. It was a wonderful place. But I went back to school at NYU after that, to get a degree in Dance Education. Then life, marriage, and eventually children changed my path. I was a full-time parent for eight years. I ended up taking a job selling real estate when several friends of mine suggested it would be flexible enough for me to continue to be a very available parent. They were right. I've lived in South Slope, Brooklyn for about 15 years and raised my two children here. They graduated from The Berkeley Carroll School, went off to college and are now graduate students at Hunter. Other interests: a stint in cooking school and a business called The Traveling Cafe, member of a dance group called Parents Who Dance, and Buddhist meditation. I'm currently writing a memoir. And I still sell real estate in Brooklyn. Last book read, a memoir: A Three Dog Life by Abigail Thomas.
