Hi, I'm Zachary. I earned my B.A. in Culture and Media with a focus in Film Studies from The New School. After receiving my degree, I tutored in math at the Harlem Children's Zone. While I was tutoring there, I helped students of many ages from kindergarten to eighth grade. I write, produce, and perform in live shows. This experience includes working with writers, so I believe I am an excellent writing teacher. When I tutor in writing, I focus on structure, characterization, and central theme. I am available to help in math, English, and creative writing. My tutoring style focuses on figuring out each student's individual learning needs, and creating a lesson plan that meets those needs. I like to give my students options. I show them a few different ways to solve a problem and let them tell me what way works best. I then focus on whichever technique worked for them going forward. Sometimes students get a little hung up on a problem. In this case, I have found that slightly shifting their thinking process opens them up to solve the initial problem and move forward to others. I also believe in making learning fun. I have worked as a special activity director at a summer camp for five summers, so I understand the importance of adding a little fun to the learning process to keep students interested. When I am not working, I enjoy hiking, skiing, catching up on current events, and reading comics.
