Experience
I earned my bachelor's degree at Davidson College, where I majored in English with supplemental studies in art history and Russian. In my junior year, I studied literature and studio art in Australia. I moved on to Columbia University to earn my MFA in Creative Writing with a concentration in nonfiction. I served as a summer high school teacher through Columbia, where I assisted students in improving their reading comprehension and creative writing skills. I have been teaching and tutoring for several years, and have worked with students from high schoolers to college students in topics like reading, writing, literature, and grammar, and I can tutor IB Extended Essay courses as well. I also enjoy helping students prepare for the SAT and GRE! I encourage my students to build a solid foundation of fundamentals, but I want my students to cultivate a deep understanding of the "how" and "why" behind each concept. This builds the ability to think critically and from different viewpoints, skills that benefit students beyond the academic world. I enjoy tailoring my tutoring style to meet my students' needs, and I love watching my students meet and exceed all their academic goals. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing, lifting weights, and practicing yoga.
