Experience
My tutoring experience began when I was a senior in high school. I first started to tutor my nephew who was, at the time, in the 6th grade. He was having difficulty in social studies and my sister asked me to help him out since I love history. His grades began to steadily improve in the area, which lead to me tutoring his friends. In October 2013-january 2014 I was a tutor at Goddard riverside tutoring 5th and 6th graders after school. I loved the experience because I formed bonds with numerous students that actually made me want to do more. This past summer I worked at the NY YMCA summer camp. There I also formed bonds and catered to each individual campers needs and feelings. We also had history programs in which I would teach a certain topic of history to the campers. The topic that was most discussed was afro-american history since the major headlines was associated with Ferguson, and the kids wanted to know more about it. I love teaching in general, it's a great way to give back to the youth and try to help them in the right direction. I feel like impacting one person at a time can create the necessary change that is needed for the future.
