I attended Cornell University to earn my degree in neurobiology and behavior. I will be attending medical school soon. As a tutor, my goal is to help students improve their learning in a subject, but also to help them love learning. As an undergraduate, I had the opportunity to work as a TA and tutor at Cornell, and I saw a valuable this was for students in terms of test scores and retention. I believe that the best way to help students improve is to identify where they need help the most. When students are properly guided, have goals, and know where they need to improve, we are more likely to find success. I can tutor students in algebra one and two, elementary and middle school math topics, pre-calculus, biology, chemistry, and Cantonese. I can also help students develop test taking skills and prepare for the SAT, MCAT, Regents, ACT, and other exams. I scored in the top 7% on the MCAT myself. I like to customize my plan based on the needs of each student that I work with, and I focus on helping students truly comprehend topics as opposed to helping them memorize formulas and facts. This helps students become self-sufficient as learners and helps them understand how to apply their knowledge so they can figure things out on their own. In my free time, I enjoy volleyball, rock climbing, ultimate Frisbee, and travel.
