Experience
For many years, I was a writing teacher employed by the Help Group, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping students with Autism, ADHD and other cognitive/learning disabilities overcome their unique challenges and thrive. I've taught across many different age groups (from 2nd graders to adults) and I've worked in education both as a tutor and as a teacher for around 7 years, including as a substitute professor of Creative Writing at Loyola Marymount University. I would describe my "style" of teaching as exploratory and interactive; whenever possible, I try and engage my students with hands on activities as a complement to more traditional "book learning". I'm good at organizing ideas and working with students on what they find most challenging. I try to impart on my students the knowledge, materials and courage they need to be independent learners, all the while inspiring them to think creatively. I have experience working with a diverse population of students and enjoy crafting lessons to meet the individual needs of my students.
