As someone who used to struggle in AP English, I know how difficult it can be to hit your stride when crafting a 10-page paper or dissecting the symbolism in Heart of Darkness. I would receive back essays that I had stayed up until 2AM pouring my heart into and be met with a barrage of red ink and comments that I could barely make sense of. However, after enlisting the help of a favorite teacher, something finally clicked and I became passionate about reading, writing, and literary analysis. I eventually went on to major in English, and anticipate entering graduate school for English and Comparative Literature next fall. Because of my time spent struggling with high school essays (and, admittedly, the occasional college essay- 500-level literature courses are no joke!), I am very patient and willing to work with students of any ability level until they are confident in their work and able to find their voice. In addition to literary analysis, I specialize in general essay editing, and can work with students on virtually any subject to help them polish their writing and communicate their ideas more clearly. If a student is looking for assistance with any sort of writing assignment, from a creative writing exercise to a college admissions essay, I am more than happy to help! I currently work as an editor for a service that assists students in polishing their college applications, and I genuinely enjoy talking about syntax and grammar. I am very flexible in my methods and happy to take the time to tailor tutoring sessions to a student's individual needs. I also specialize in sociology, and can help students with anything from Soc 101 to ethnography, experimental design, participant observation, ethnomethodology, general theory, literature reviews, and research papers. In my spare time I love writing, skiing, playing the guitar and exploring the city!
