Private tutor in Brooklyn, NY

Education

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brown University in 2011 with a degree in Comparative Literature and a 4.0 GPA. I also a member of Phi Beta Kappa, a national honors society. I attended Phillips Exeter Academy for high school and received a 2290 on my SAT. I received scores above 700 on all my SAT subject tests -- Math I, English Lit, and Chemistry. I currently work as a freelance journalist and specialize in helping students improve their writing skills. I have years of experience editing papers and am hands down the best essay tutor around! My rates are between $90 and $120 an hour, depending on the subject. I currently offer a referral deal: connect me with another student, and you'll get a free session after their third session.

Experience

I've tutored SAT, writing, history, math and other subjects to New York City students in middle school, high school and college for the past three years. Prior to that, I spent two years living in Paris, France, where I gave private English lessons to children, teenagers and adults. I also consult on college admissions strategy and edit application essays. My favorite part about being a tutor is watching my students improve and have fun while they're doing it. Whether it's quizzing you on SAT vocab words, helping edit your term paper, or going over daily homework, I'll make assignments less daunting and grades more attainable. My tutoring philosophy centers around flexibility and helping you reach specific goals. If you need help improving your grammar and writing skills over a summer break, I can design a lesson plan. If you need to go over math homework once a week, I'll make sure you get the answers right. If you want an essay proofread the day before it's due, that's ok too. My methods include: -Helping students improve their grades and get organized with regular homework and study routines. -Devising brainstorming exercises to get the creative juices flowing and make an agonizing project more enjoyable. -Explaining math or grammar mistakes while working on assignments; reviewing issues at the end of sessions so students retain information. -Reviewing final drafts of larger assignments to ensure every detail is perfect. I'm a patient and positive person and believe that with the right guidance, everyone can love learning as much as I do. If you're unsure about whether this is a good fit, please reach out to chat!
