Experience
As a future educator, tutoring comes naturally to me. I've wanted to be a teacher since the 11th grade; I graduated from high school in 2005, so that's a decade of wanting to be a positive influence in the lives of young people. I have a very strong passion for youth; even if I don't become a classroom teacher (if my writing career takes off or I just end up doing something else) I will always be involved in advocating for youth and young adults somehow. I love all kids and young adults, but my focus is generally on teens and college-age students. I volunteered for about 6 months at The Ali Forney Center for Homeless LGBT Youth (residents are 16-24 years old) and in my most recent employment, as a graduate student, I worked directly with undergraduate students and often put a smile on their faces. (I made a surprise visit recently and was greeted with big grins.) I have taken classes in human/child development, lesson planning, trends in special education, teacher research, and differentiation. Throughout undergrad and grad school I have both participated in and facilitated creative writing workshops. I am a published writer and I just try to be myself. :)
