I have been a tutor at John Jay College for 10 years at its Writing Center. I have experience working one-on-one with students and helping them to brainstorm, organize, revise and proofread their work. Part of the hiring process of becoming a tutor was a required two semester course that focused on grammar, writing composition, and training in one-on-one student interaction. Along with one-on-one tutoring, I also conducted group workshops that focused on grammar, organization and development. I was an teacher's assistant for 6 years in the remedial English program at John Jay. I assisted professors in preparing students to take the entrance writing exam at John Jay. As an English major, I have taken courses that have covered a wide range of literature and periods: Shakespeare, 19th and 20th century, Modern, Ancient, and American Literature to name a few.
