Experience
Tutoring experience includes Students from Brooklyn Technical High School to Columbia University School of Business (Executive MBA Program) 20 years teaching experience at New York University (School of Continuing Professional Studies) Undergraduate courses taught: Math I, Math II, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, Microeconomics, & Finance. Graduate courses taught: Information Systems for the Hospitality Industry, Technology for the Travel & Tourism Industry (includes Geographic Information Systems & SPSS) 10 years experience conducting courses in MS Office for a federal government agency. 12 years work experience in private sector as an Industrial Engineer, Financial Systems and Business Analyst. Tasks included Mathematical, Statistical and Simulation modeling for Computer, Telecommunications, and Finance Industries. Recognized as a Statistical Expert Witness in two Federal Voting Rights cases. I have been teaching for 20 years mostly within a class environment but at times on a one-on-one basis. My approach is akin to that of a Doctor. First, I inquire to make a diagnosis. This involves looking at the syllabus (to see what's ahead) as well as finding out where the skill and knowledge weaknesses are. Then I outline a prescription and proceed to execute the cure. I do this with an awareness of the common "pre-condition" known as "Math Anxiety". There is an inverse relationship between "Math Anxiety" and "Confidence". In other words when one goes up; the other goes down. That is why I focus on building confidence during my tutorials. When Exam time comes the anxiety will be kept at a minimum. The stated hourly fee is really an average rate. Rates vary based on High School vs College subjects; and distance travelled. I am available for any location accessible by NYC Transit. Arrangements can be made to meet in specific Libraries and Coffee houses in Brooklyn and Manhattan.
