Education

Double major in Mathematics and Philosophy at Connecticut College. Graduated in 2012 with honors.

Experience

Credentials: I am a recent graduate with honors from Connecticut College with a double major in mathematics and philosophy. I have studied nearly every area of mathematics up to the undergraduate or graduate level. In high school, I took AP courses in statistics (5 on exam) and BC calculus (4 on exam). In college, in addition to my coursework I worked in the college math help center, tutored privately, participated in the mathematics team and the prestigious Putnam Exam, and I was a three-time recipient of the Julian Wells-Bower prize for distinction in mathematics from Connecticut College. During my time in college I also worked for cyber security powerhouse RSA Security, and I am listed as the primary inventor on a new method for verifying a user's identity on the internet that utilizes many different areas of mathematics. Given my background, and my focus on fundamentals, I feel completely comfortable tutoring students of ALL levels in mathematics- anything from addition and subtraction to advanced topology! Personality: I believe anyone can get excited about math if it's done right. I don't talk about math in a boring, complicated way because I do not believe math has to be boring or complicated. If you present it in the right way, and highlight the right things, math is really really freaking cool, and very intuitive. I do not make any of my students memorize equations or formulas. Instead, I teach them how to think about math and mathematical concepts and what the best way is to approach problems, and this gives them the tools to solve whatever problems mother nature throws their way! One of my favorite experiences with getting non-mathematicians excited about math is a lecture I gave in college about the history and nature of infinity. The audience consisted of both technical and non-technical students and professors, and after the talk ended I think everyone had just a liiiiiittle bit more of an idea of just what the heck infinity is.

Hobbies

My other passion is music. I work in a recording studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn called Cowboy Technical Services. I have been playing guitar for over 13 years and I compose and perform regularly. I have taught private guitar lessons to students of all ages. When I'm not thinking about music or math I love reading Philosophy and playing Halo 4.
