Hi, I am available for virtual tutoring from New York City! Over 10 years teaching experience! I have spent the past 6 years teaching Regents and AP chemistry in New York City as an accredited and tenured teacher. I also worked for two different Silicon Valley companies as a chemist, one in biotech and the other in semiconductors. In my work to improve my teaching, I spent a year teaching University level Chemistry at Penn State as a full time instructor. I have two master's degrees in science (both 4.0 GPA's), and a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry, with Honors. My teaching experience includes teaching chemistry at the high school level in NYC, college level at Penn State and UC Santa Cruz. Additionally, I worked with elementary school children for 5 years, teaching a second language. I have worked with over 1000 students, including students with specific needs, and studying requirements. My approach to teaching has more to do with thinking outside the box and finding a method and/or explanation that makes sense to the student rather than forcing a way of thought or structure onto the unique thinking style of each student. I work with a student’s strengths to determine the best possible way to teach and develop the knowledge and problem-solving skills that are necessary for success in any subject, especially Chemistry and Math. I have worked with a wide range of students, from elementary to re-entry university students, and students with learning disabilities, including ADHD and Autism. Students that work with me show an increase in grades, higher test scores, complete homework assignments regularly and correctly, and have a better understanding of the material that prepares them for more advanced courses. I have a wide range of hobbies, including sourdough bread baking, making stickers, drawing greeting cards, knitting, and bicycling. I enjoy exploring outside with my dog, Walnut, and going on hikes with my wife. My favorite place to be is walking along the tidal line at the beach, listening to the waves and being part of the greater world.
