Education
I received a BA cum laude from Harvard College with a degree in the History of Science and a minor in Dramatic Arts. My studies at Harvard primarily focused on the history of contemporary medicine, but additional coursework covered neurobiology, the economics of international development and global health.
Experience
I have seven years of experience tutoring kindergardeners through college students. I worked previously for an elite SAT tutoring company, but I also specialize in math through Algebra. My SAT students typically see gains of 200-400 points as a result of preparation that focuses on the areas that students need to work on most. Students work almost exclusively with College Board SAT problems to maximize their familiarity with problems as written by the test makers themselves. I have tutored students for the new test. Regardless of grade level, my math tutoring focuses on cultivating a holistic understanding of the material among my students. Students will not only learn how to solve a problem, but will learn why a solution works. I also help students build confidence as I push them to explain concepts in their own words and encourage them to ask questions. I have additionally tutored Spanish, college-level writing, biology, history, and reading/writing skills with elementary school students. Along with fifteen years of babysitting experience, I formerly served as a counselor for an afterschool program focused on providing educational support for low-income K-8 students from Cambridge, MA.
