Katherine H.

Private tutor in Brooklyn, NY

Education

I attended Brooklyn Technical High School and graduated in 2019. I finished with a GPA of 99.84 and graduated with a Chemical Engineering Diploma. I now attend Skidmore College and will graduate in 2023. I am a straight A student with a GPA of 3.94. I am currently a Computer Science and Philosophy major.

Experience

I have been through the public education system in America and completely empathize with the challenges. For middle school, I attended IS 187, Christa McAuliffe, and graduated from the Scientific Research Academy. Then, I attended Brooklyn Technical High School, graduating with a diploma in Chemical Engineering and with a cumulative GPA of 99.84. I also earned the Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors in chemistry and mathematics. At Brooklyn Tech, I founded the Tutoring Service Association, training other students to become tutors and offering tutoring services myself for AP exams. I scored a 5 on my AP Calculus AB, AP Physics I, AP Chemistry and AP English, Language, and Composition exams. I am now a sophomore at Skidmore College, majoring in philosophy and computer science. I have a cumulative GPA of 3.90, which makes me a Periclean Honors Student. I am also proud to announce that I am one of five students in my graduating class to receive the Porter Presidential Scholarship in Science and Mathematics. Although I am not a science major, I conduct research in computational biophysics with funding from the National Science Foundation. I believe that I am more than competent to help your child with their English, math, and sciences. I will not be a tutor that simply lectures or talks at your child. It is my policy to teach using a Socratic questioning method that encourages learning through dialogue and conversation. I believe that this is the best way to keep your child engaged and it is the best way for me to assess your child's understanding. I have plenty of experience working with children, as I was a volunteer at the Pediatric Emergency Department in Mount Sinai for a year. There, I learned how to be patient with children and learned to put a smile on their faces.

Hobbies

I love to read self-help books, but recently I have been loving the fictional publications by Haruki Murakami. I am also a CD/Vinyl collector for various classical and jazz artists. Recently, I have been loving the pieces by Paul Desmond and Ryuichi Sakamoto. More about me: I am a very self-critical person. Although this is a rather odd thing to share in a bio, I have noticed that my reflective habits allow me to be responsible and punctual with any work I am engaged in. Of course, this is something open to challenge by my students and I am open to the constructive feedback.
