I have taught college Creative Writing and Literature classes in many universities, including San Francisco State University and, as a teaching assistant, at Stanford University. I am a regular contributor to Fiction Writers Review, where my latest essay was the most read of 2016. My stories, essays, reviews, and translations have appeared in several journals, including New Madrid, Cardinal Points, and Ploughshares. I have recently relocated to Brooklyn with my family, and I'm seeking to teach, which includes tutoring.

I am writing a novel about Odessa, Ukraine. It takes place in the 1930s as well as in 2014. I'm very much interested in the ethics of writing fiction about foreign cultures. I'm interested in female and other characters who break the traditional norms of Creative Writing. Stylistically, I'm interested in characters' voices more than realist third person-narrators. I speak fluent Russian (as well as German). I enjoy language in all of its aspects. I'm an avid reader, both for professional reasons and for pleasure. I have a 2-year-old daughter, who is bilingual. I enjoy bicycling and camping. I really love discussing public transportation in New York and other urban areas.
