I received my bachelor's degree at Middlebury College, where I majored in political science and minored in economics. As an undergraduate, I tutored people within the community in math, essay writing, literacy, and college entrance exams. Upon completing my bachelor's degree, I moved to California and started working in a charter school located in the inner city. As a school teacher, I worked directly with students, in both individual settings and small groups, who performed poorly in the classroom. During this time, I learned how to simplify the complex material covered in such a manner that even the most disenfranchised students were able to understand.After working as a school teacher, I joined the Peace Corps and began my assignment in Rwanda as a high school English teacher for a small village. During this time, I worked within the community to help improve living conditions, as well as gain a greater understanding of the people's goals, priorities, and daily struggles. Upon learning about the community's needs, I developed my own curriculum better suited to help the students within the community.Through my experience in Rwanda, I was able to explore other venues, such as development studies, to better help the community. I formulated a business model that is capable of having a positive impact on the community. Because of this, I will be returning to school to pursue my MBA.
