Jess S.
Private tutor in Brooklyn, NY
Education
I graduated with honors from Detroit Lakes (MN) High School in 2009. I am now a proud 2013 college grad with a Bachelor's degree in Applied Sciences from the University of Minnesota-Duluth; I majored in Exercise Science (Kinesiology) and minored in Psychology. (Ultimately I wanted to pursue a career in either the physical/occupational therapy field or within the field of chiropractics, but right now I find myself in between under-grad and grad school to get experience and figure out what it really is that I want to do!)
Experience
I have had tutoring experience at an elementary school, middle school and at my high school teaching Spanish. For the past three years I have had the opportunity of tutoring a 6th grader in all subjects and a 10th grader in Spanish, Mathematics, and other various subjects. I really enjoy interacting with others and helping them learn! I majored in Exercise Science which means I was enrolled in all the "fun" classes: Biology, Chemistry, Calculus, Human Anatomy, Clinical Exercise Physiology, Physics, Developmental Psychology etc... And with my Psychology minor and early childhood development background I learned valuable information to help with a variety of learning disorders/disabilities. I also took four years of Spanish in high school, including AP Spanish 4. On top of tutoring experience, I have six years of experience teaching swimming lessons for various age groups and skill levels such as, parent-child aquatics, group lessons, and private lessons. I enjoy teaching lessons because I have gained experience working with children of all ages and various learning styles as well as adapting to different disabilities and needs of children. I have become a problem solver and enjoy the feelings of success when a student overcomes a fear or succeeds in a skill.

Hobbies
Seeing some of the college coursework I was enrolled in it probably doesn't seem like I would have much of a life...but I do! I love anything outdoors, snowboarding/wakeboarding, relaxing on the beach, playing guitar, teaching, reading, cooking healthy, traveling...the list goes on! I have a great sense of humor and probably the easiest person you'll ever meet to get along with. I am aware, patient and genuine, worldly, and dependable. I would love to make a long-term commitment with your family, but am also extremely flexible to seasonal work. I hope you'll consider me as a tutor for your son or daughter! And I am willing to negotiate the wage as needed!
