Private tutor in Brooklyn, NY

Education

I have received a Bachelor degree with Magna Cum Laude Honors in Childhood Education, with a concentration in Math, at St. John’s University on January 31 2014. I am currently attending Teachers College, Columbia University, for Intellectual Disability/ Autism Master’s program.

Experience

I’m a certified NYS elementary teacher and work as a substitute teacher in NYC public schools in Brooklyn and Queens. I'm currently working as a math teacher at EM Skills Learning Center in Brooklyn. I'm teaching 2nd and 3rd graders in Math & English every Saturday. I'm also tutoring students in variety of subjects , including the Regents. I worked as a teacher's assistant in a self-contained autistic classroom. I assisted the classroom teacher with six autistic children with activities in the classroom, lunchtime and snack time. I also managed and taught the students when the teacher stepped out of the classroom. I worked at Queens Hospital Center as a tutor for 3 years. I tutored many special needs students, who are from grade 1 to grade 12. I tutored them in variety of subjects : Math, English and Social Studies. I helped them on their homework, organization skills and studying habits. My students' academics had improved after having me as their tutor! I was employed as an after-school teacher at Excel Learning Center, which is located in Brooklyn. I worked with 3rd graders; I checked their homework and also gave them class work, which might be a practice for them / new to them. I also had to manage the class. Working with them was such a great experience for me! I was employed at St. John's University to teach high school students in Algebra and help them prepare for their integrated algebra regent exam. Since I'm concentrating in Math and math is my strongest subject, I was able to help them understand algebra better than their own math teacher. I tutored two special education students and working with them is astounding. Just because they are labeled as special education, don't assume that they are not brilliant. I've to admit that both of them are really brilliant and all they need is someone who is patient and make learning fun. When they were working with me, they were able to concentrate and learn the materials very well. I also tutored a high school student in math and his test score went up by 10 points in just a month! By tutoring others, I can increase my own knowledge in the subjects and also help others who are weak in them. Tutoring others help me gain more experiences in my career field.
