I have been teaching for 20 years mostly within a class environment but at times on a one-on-one basis.

My approach is akin to that of a Doctor. First, I inquire to make a diagnosis. This involves looking at the syllabus (to see what's ahead) as well as finding out where the skill and knowledge weaknesses are. Then I outline a prescription and proceed to execute the cure.

I do this with an awareness of the common "pre-condition" known as "Math Anxiety". There is an inverse relationship between "Math Anxiety" and "Confidence". In other words when one goes up; the other goes down. That is why I focus on building confidence during my tutorials. When Exam time comes the anxiety will be kept at a minimum.
