Experience

SAT MATH/SCIENCE GURU and Co-Founder of a premier Test Prep and Admissions Consultancy. Hello everyone! I am new to UniversityTutor.com, but have many years of tutoring experience. Please read below about my passionate journey of math tutoring, accomplishments and track record of success so that you too will feel confident and certain that I am the perfect math tutor for your child! My name is Roman, but students like to call me the Math Guru. It is my pleasure and a great honor to be able to extend my passion for mathematics to the young minds and future leaders of the UniversityTutor.com community. I hold a degree in Mathematics from NYU where I graduated with Magna Cum Laude and GPA of 3.8 in my major. I am the co-founder of a premier test prep and admissions consultancy located in Brooklyn, New York. Currently I am tutoring math full time at my Brooklyn office and preparing students for the math section of the SAT. MY STORY My deep love for mathematics dates all the way back to Mark Twain Junior High Schools math talent program where I would impress my friends and classmates with mental math tricks. Continuing my passion for math, I joined the math team in High School and was a consistent math contest champion in many competitions. After receiving a 5 on the AP Calculus Exam Junior year of high school and achieving a perfect score on the Math Section of my SAT, I began tutoring my fellow friends and classmates to help them score higher on their SAT. While maintaining a stellar academic record in college, I continued tutoring high school students for the SAT math. After preparing over 100 students for the SAT math, I started developing my very own SAT math curriculum to help students from different levels and backgrounds maximize their math score on the SAT. Upon graduating college, I co-founded an elite test prep and admissions consultancy with an experienced SAT English tutor who graduated from Columbia University. Together we hold private 1-on-1 and small group sessions in our Brooklyn office where we help our students optimize their total SAT score. In addition to test prep, we provide admissions counseling services to help maximize our students’ chances to the most elite universities in America. My SAT Math Program First and foremost: My SAT math curriculum is designed for students who are really SERIOUS about improving on their SAT. To have superior results, the student is required to complete comprehensive assignments after each lesson. But trust me when I say this, you will leave with a joyful smile when you are finished and I will be the happiest tutor in the world! (references upon your request) SAT COURSE DESCRIPTION: (all material included & online system will grade and track progress) I would like to start out by saying that each student has his/her strengths and weaknesses; therefore, my teachings are customized and unique for each student. Right before our first lesson, the student will complete a diagnostic SAT math test which I use as a base score to access the student’s current level. Beginning from the start of the program, students will learn effective strategies (my VIA, PITA, and Guessing Strategy) that will help get the answer to many math question types quicker and more efficiently. The program will take the student through every single topic tested on the SAT math. Each topic will include in-class and homework questions for students to retain and practice what they learned. While learning each SAT topic, students will also complete mock SAT Practice Tests for homework. At the beginning of each lesson, I go over questions the students got wrong and ascertain the reasons for their mistakes. Students will take over 20 SAT Math Tests, including periodic diagnostic tests, throughout the duration of the program. The course length is different for each student depending on the amount of effort each student puts in after each lesson. One of my most recent students who just took his SAT November 2012 (improved 140 points from a 620 to 760) was able to complete the program in under 20 sessions (1 hour per session). On average; however, it takes a student approximately 2 months of rigorous preparation to complete my introductory course. As soon as the student reaches above a 650 on my diagnostic test, the student will learn advanced formulas (not taught in school or in other test prep companies) to solve harder questions. By the end of the course, the student will have completed over 2000 SAT math questions and have will definitely improve on their SAT math. Feel free to contact me at 347-699-6284. I look forward working with your child.
