Experience

Students often struggle with writing without knowing why, or even knowing why they're struggling (which is why the class most required by universities across the country is a college level writing seminar!). Writing skills are essential to success - whether you're in school or applying to school - and I can help. I'm a writer myself and love working with other writers, whether on a project by project basis or to help strengthen communication skills holistically. At Yale I was part of the Writing Concentration program, where I honed my ability to be both a sharp and sensitive editor of student writing, with an emphasis on teaching others to become their own best editors. I've won awards for both academic and creative writing, and I have studied with professors who are professionals at the top of their field. I have years of experience helping others improve their class work as well. When I was at Harvard-Westlake I worked as a teacher recommended peer tutor for Art History. I also worked as a summer English tutor - during that time I created my own passage selections and curriculum to boost students’ writing and critical reading abilities, preparing them for the difficult academic leap between 9th and 10th grades. I grew up in a prep school environment that put a premium on test scores and college admissions: I know what it takes to be successful, but I also know how to support high school students as they work through a stressful period in their academic careers. The same holds whether you're applying to middle school or law school: good writing speaks for itself, and I can guide you through any point of the process, from brainstorming to page edits. I am available on a project by project basis at a negotiable flat rate as well as hourly, and I will do a preliminary review of a draft for free.

Hobbies

I love to read - everything from Virginia Woolf to David Sedaris. I work in editorial at a book publishing firm. I watch movies obsessively and am still loyal to the tv show Friends. I paint and draw; I like to look at as much art as I can, and can always be counted on to weigh in about fonts and color palettes.
