John V.
Private tutor in Brooklyn, NY
Education
Sophomore English Major at Columbia University. GPA: 4.0. Dean's List.
Experience
I have tutored at the Bowery Mission, teaching English to the homeless. Instead of listing scores, and as a lead-in to my interest in tutoring, I will say off the bat that I have none. I dropped out of high school in sophomore year to take care of my mother, getting my GED locally before moving to NYC and spending a few semesters at community colleges. I am now at Columbia University, as a Dean's List student. I want to be a tutor because I think I'm living proof that even the most non-traditional of students can succeed with the right knowledge-base and the right help. I have writing experience on various websites (IPG Media Labs, Somethingawful.com) and all As in a wide array of English courses at Columbia, some of which are Graduate student level. I have been published in the Morningside Review.
