Emma D.
Private tutor in Brooklyn, NY
Education
BFA Dramatic Writing 2011; BA English 2011. GPA 3.65. Honors Scholar.
Experience
I have been a tutor with StreetSquash, a Harlem organization with a 100% college acceptance rate, since September. My ACT composite was a 32. I am a huge nerd, and tutoring is a way for me to share my joy for learning with great people as I prepare to apply to graduate school and start to figure out what to do with my life. With my unending patience, strong sense of focus, and ability to intuit another person's learning process, I have a great personality for tutoring, and I really enjoy assisting students in the process of transforming a subject that seems insurmountable into a welcome, fun challenge. In college I took advanced English classes in critical theory, postcolonial and postmodern literature; and I also took classes on screenplay structure, playwriting, and directing. My thesis was a full-length historical play about a sixties underground bar that I am still working on; I'm also working on another play about an Illinois state park ranger that will be produced in fall 2012. I write freelance for a New York parenting magazine, and I'm also an almost-full-time nanny.
